Art Gallery Sr Jesualda

The former novices’ chapel at the Oude Dijk has also been turned into a museum as well, namely with drawings and sculptures made by Sr Jesualda Kwanten.
Sr Jesualda Kwanten was born in Gendt, a village near Nijmegen, on 5 September 1901. She had already obtained her teaching certificates before she entered the convent in 1928. After she had taken a secondary school teaching certificate in drawing, she received training in sculpting at the state academy of visual arts in Amsterdam. For many years, she taught drawing and history of art at a secondary girls’ school in Amsterdam. From 1966, Sr Jesualda was a recognized sculptress. At an advanced age, she continued to make works of art and had many prominent figures immortalized in clay, plaster, wax, and bronze.
