Kapittel

The next day …
The day following the election was a special day. The new general council had been elected and yet we still had to discuss a number of topics.

First item for discussion was the date on which the transfer of the activities from the old to the new general council would be concluded. It has been decided that this date would be set at 15 July 2017.
The next item was a difficult topic: the stable patrimony. Each congregation has been asked to make a list describing all the assets, which are required to preserve the congregation. A procedure will need to be established to clarify who is responsible for determining the list. The chapter has agreed to investigate in each province what is advised on this matter by the conference of Superiors General.

We briefly came back to the topic of ‘connectedness’. It was emphasized that when we talk of connectedness this also includes propagating the charism; connectedness is not simply having those people whose assistance is needed by the congregation. The kindred spirits need the congregation and vice versa. Each part of the congregation will need to consider in which form this kind of connectedness may be achieved. What already exists needs to be promoted. The general council needs to support the provinces in this matter.

Consequently we discussed the proposed amendments to the statutes. Until the present, our statutes contain no reference to any disciplinary measures that may be required in case a general or provincial council does not operate properly. The text under discussion is accepted as a temporary statute and the new general council will work to draft a new statute to be presented at the next chapter.

There were 36 chapter members at this occasion. That is a large group. For that reason, statute IX-14b. has been amended in such a way that the group of ex-officio members to participate in the general chapter will be reduced, but that all parts will be represented.
In addition a few more minor amendments were proposed and approved.

Today the draft recommendations were distributed among the chapter members. These will be discussed tomorrow.

Because today was the last evening on which everyone was present, we turned it into a social evening. It turned out to be an evening with singing, dancing and interesting conversations in a relaxed atmosphere.
